It usually goes like this.
You never see this person. It is only long distance. He always has good reasons that he can’t meet you now, but he will soon.
At some point, he askes you for money. Somehow the money can help him/her to see you. They are usually very skillful. When they reach this step, you are probably already in love with him.
If you are in doubt, it is a good sign because at least you have awareness. Please talk to your friends, family, or someone you trust. If you don’t want to talk to anyone you know, most companies have employee benefit program including therapists. Please get a second opinion. Love is naturally blinding.
I think deep down it is fear or even shame. It is very hard to admit that someone tries to fool you for money, and you fell for it. It gets very personal. You might become defensive and feel that you and that person are us against the whole world. You might even fight your own family or friends to protect that relationship you deem love.
Hope that you realize that your self-worth is not determined by that person’s attitude towards you. We mere mortals all make mistakes. Just different people make different types of mistakes. The pandemic makes us so isolated and much more vulnerable to be preyed on.
Have compassion for yourself and get out of there ASAP!
